❤️ I'm thrilled to share that I've reached 48% of my Earth's Diameter Challenge – walking the full 7,926 miles around our planet!
Madinah, the illuminated city, holds a special place in the heart of every Muslim. Reaching this milestone during a sacred pilgrimage adds a profound spiritual dimension to my physical journey. The city where the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) established the first Muslim community provides not just paths for walking but paths for reflection on faith, purpose, and gratitude.

I paused often, not just for physical rest but for spiritual contemplation. The beauty of the mosque with its elegant minarets and green dome, the sight of pilgrims from every nation walking together in peace, the call to prayer echoing across the city – all of these reminded me that my walking challenge is itself a gift from Allah, a sign of health and ability that should never be taken for granted.
Reaching 48% of my challenge in Madinah feels deeply appropriate. In Islam, the pilgrimage (Hajj and Umrah) involves significant walking – circling the Kaaba, traversing between Safa and Marwa, and walking through the plains of Arafat. Muslims have always been walkers, journeying for faith, for trade, for knowledge, for community.
The 3,767 miles I've walked so far pale in comparison to the spiritual journeys Muslims have undertaken throughout history. Yet each step is an act of gratitude for the health Allah has granted me, an opportunity to reflect on His creation, and a form of moving meditation on the blessings in my life.

The July weather in Madinah was hot, as expected, but the early morning hours when I chose to walk were cooler. The city's wide pavements and well-maintained walkways made movement comfortable even in the warmth.
I walked the paths around the Prophet's Mosque (Al-Masjid an-Nabawi), one of Islam's holiest sites. The area features beautifully designed pedestrian zones with smooth marble surfaces that stay cool even in the heat, shaded arcades, and thoughtfully placed rest areas. The environment is designed to accommodate millions of pilgrims, making it remarkably accessible for walking at any pace.
The spiritual significance of every step in Madinah transforms the simple act of walking into something profound. These streets were walked by the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his companions. This air was breathed by the earliest Muslims who built a community based on faith, justice, and compassion. To walk here is to follow in blessed footsteps.

The streets of Madinah are filled with shops, restaurants, and facilities serving pilgrims, but what strikes me most is the atmosphere of peace and brotherhood. People from every country, speaking every language, all united in purpose. Walking among them, I felt connected to something far larger than my individual challenge.
As I walked, I offered prayers of thanks – for reaching this percentage, for the ability to walk, for the opportunity to be in this blessed city, for every blessing seen and unseen. The Islamic principle that inspired this challenge is "Precaution is better than cure" – maintaining health through regular activity is a way to preserve the trust (amanah) that Allah has placed in us.
Every step brings me closer to this incredible goal – and reminds me why I love inspiring others to get active outdoors. Let's keep moving!
Insha'Allah, the finish line awaits at 7,926 miles.
