❤️ I'm thrilled to share that I've reached 45% of my Earth's Diameter Challenge – walking the full 7,926 miles around our planet!
Minster Leas Beach in Sheerness, Isle of Sheppey, offered a return to coastal walking for this significant milestone. The beach and promenade area provides excellent paved paths with sea views, combining the invigorating effects of sea air with the ease of accessible, level walking.

I took several breaks on benches along the promenade, sitting to watch the waves and reflect on reaching 45% of my challenge. Nearly halfway there – 3,513 miles completed, almost 8 million steps taken, 822 days of consistent movement. The numbers tell a story of commitment and perseverance that even I find impressive when I pause to consider them.
What I love about coastal walks is their meditative quality. The rhythm of waves provides a natural metronome for walking, and the endless horizon reminds us of the vastness of our world. The sea has always drawn humans to walk beside it, and I'm grateful to be part of that timeless tradition.
The promenade's even surface made for easy walking, but the environment provided plenty of interest. I watched ships passing in the shipping lanes, observed the light changing across the water, and noted how the tide gradually advanced up the beach. Nature operates on its own schedule, indifferent to our human projects and challenges, which provides a useful perspective.

The November day was surprisingly mild, with autumn sunshine warming the coastal air. The weather was balanced and pleasant – cool but comfortable, with the distinctive smell of salt and seaweed carried on a gentle breeze. This is the kind of day that makes coastal walking deeply satisfying.
I walked along the promenade that runs parallel to the beach, a smooth, wide path perfect for steady, contemplative movement. To my left, the Thames Estuary stretched into the distance, its grey-blue waters meeting the sky at a hazy horizon. To my right, the town rose gently from the seafront, a mix of Victorian buildings and modern development.
The beach itself was nearly empty, as November beaches often are, giving me space to walk and think without distraction. Seabirds wheeled overhead – gulls crying their distinctive calls, and the occasional cormorant flying low over the water. The tide was out, revealing expanses of wet sand that reflected the sky like a mirror.

Minster Leas may not be the most famous beach in Kent, but it offers what every walker needs: a safe, accessible path, beautiful views, and the opportunity to move through nature. The simplicity of putting one foot in front of the other while breathing sea air is one of life's great pleasures.
The coastal environment here speaks of both change and constancy – tides come and go, seasons shift, weather varies, but the sea remains, and the path beside it continues to welcome walkers. Every step brings me closer to this incredible goal – and reminds me why I love inspiring others to get active outdoors.
Let's keep moving! Insha'Allah, the finish line awaits at 7,926 miles.
